I was so engrossed in finishing the magicians' guild last night I slept so late and thus skipped the 9am mass this morning. anyway, the novel is the first book of the black magician trilogy by trudi canavan. a captivating tale about a slum girl who possesses hidden magical power. she discovered her power accidentally, which led to her being captured by the magicians. being a slum girl she has been taught not to trust magicians her whole life. however, after a rescue attempt, a blackmail attempt, couple of lessons and demonstration.. she decided to join the magicians' guild. I'm in the second book now, the novice which resembles harry potter. magic classes, and of course, a class bully.

new acronym: BCPD - bad christmas present disorder :)

went to orchard road for some shopping. it's either my appearance or just my luck, but I was approached by so many people, from donation, to flyers, to surveys. there's this particular survey going on about travel destination for the longest time. I took pity on the cheerful, bubbly teenage girl who pleaded for me helping her fill in survey form, for which she would be paid a dollar each. very soon I regretted my decision to stop and spare her my time. her enthusiasm irritated me. she kept repeating why-you-look-so-sad-smile-a-bit-lah.

true enough, I was asked to pick one card at first. that wasn't the first prize, so she asked me to choose one more, saying that each person is entitled to 2 cards. and voila, that one 'won' me the top prize, free 7 days stay and so on and so forth. she was ecstatic. she yelled to her supervisor who quickly came over and immediately saying the same thing: why don't you look happy winning the top prize?

goodness, it's because I know very well there's no such thing as free lunch. redeeming my "prizes" would waste another few hours of my time. surely there's something fishy about winning things for nothing?

I told them I was not interested at all as I know what it's all about, and both of their faces turned sour. then I quickly walked away.

I should have told them then to smile a bit.. ;)

just feel like blogging..

went to macritchie reservoir park last weekend. completed 3.5-hour walk, which was 11 kilometres excluding the tree top route. totally exhausted. went straight home and slept till evening :)

decided not to skip the 9am mass last sunday and turned out that they had this special blessing for the choir as we were celebrating feast day of St Cecilia, the patron saint of church music.

went to vivocity to catch the latest bond movie. happened to see the notice on doulos, the floating book fair. it is the world's oldest active passenger ship bringing the book fair to port cities around the globe. amazing.

a colleague gave our team a bday treat this afternoon at an indian restaurant at riverside walk. gave him wallet as a present. ah ya, talking about bday, I didn't get any cake this year.. haha.. I guess they'd all been brought forward to last year when I got 3 cakes.. ;)

I'm involved in the committee (read: seksi sibuk aka pembantu umum) for this year's department year-end gathering. was really excited about the idea of dinner cruise at the beginning. too bad the response is not that good, and some managers are just super fussy.. *sigh*

the second episode of amazing race asia was so fun! the 10 teams visited jakarta, went to ragunan zoo for a roadblock - getting the clue from a box inside a snake cage, went to TMII to dance the tari piring, and did the detour of either selling 15 bowls of bakso or pushing the bakso carts carefully so as not to spill the soy sauce put inside a bowl. the hilarious part was, they had to push the carts while singing the song abang tukang bakso, mari mari sini, aku mau beli.. abang tukang bakso cepatlah kemari.. *rofl*
