can't get enough of the song..

andaikan aku fasih berbicara
namun tak punya cinta kasih
kubagai gong yang bergaung

andai imanku mampu pindahkan gunung
namun tak punya cinta kasih
ku tiada berguna

kasih itu sabar murah hati
percaya tak angkuh dan tak dengki
kasih itu tak memegahkan diri
kasih itu kekal serta abadi

andaikan aku mendermakan hartaku
namun tak punya cinta kasih
tiada berartilah aku

a newly learned song for friends' wedding this coming month. liked it! albeit being written in
non-standard indonesian way (i.e. not in staff), thus double the effort.. but our first attempt is not bad at all!

we were really lucky today. a friend passed to us two F1 grand prix qualifying round tickets. initial plan to watch it from another friend's office tower was soon abandoned, preferring the closer look =p

entered from gate 7 near marina square, we were greeted by white tents. first one was for bag checking and ticket scanning, followed by merchandisers' tents. survival kit packages were sold at $2, containing a poncho and a pair of earplugs.

the tickets gave us access to zone 3 and 4, at bay grandstand, in front of floating platform. the area was pretty crowded. the assigned seats were located at the second last row, but we still could sit on any vacant seats so we sat somewhere nearer to the front.

I am not an F1 fan, so I refreshed my memory again just before the race on the participant' names as well as the rule of qualifying round. so the 1 hour qualifying round is divided to 3 parts: first - the last 5 cars get eliminated, second - the last 5 cars get eliminated, third - the remaining 10 cars fight for the pole position for the actual race. there are a few minutes break between parts.

the sound was really deafening, and the earplugs helped a lot. as a spectator, I could not really make out what's happening as most of the time I could only see racing cars zooming on the track. watching the screen gave much bigger picture, but the text couldn't actually be seen clearly from the back of the grandstand.

so, all in all, to me watching a car race on TV is still more enjoyable, although being there in person gives a totally different experience - the atmosphere, and the crowd :)

went to 3 places for cache hunting today: marang trail, harbourfront for steam crane railroad and kent ridge park for the ridges cache. like yesterday, we managed to find only one - the one in marang trail, along series of steps connecting telok blangah and mount faber. hint given for this cache is really descriptive: "at the base of a tree, covered by leaves".. along the trail, whenever you look you'll see trees with leaves scattered all over.

despite the fierce mosquitoes and spotty signal, we found the cache. hurray! it contained two sheets of paper as a logbook replacement, a card, a church brochure, a watermelon shaped rubber, a seashell, and a travel bug! it's our first time finding a travel bug, and it's quite cute too.. a smurf lying lazily beside a coconut tree. its purpose is to go to the next island. hmm.. wondering where we should place it next.

found our second geocache at the japanese cemetery park this afternoon.

what we like about geocaching is, it leads us to secluded places - areas to which we wouldn't venture, if not for the caches. this park is located at hougang, the largest japanese cemetery in south east asia (ref: wikipedia). burials stopped since 1973, and in 1987 the place was gazetted as memorial park.

it is a tranquil, serene park, with well kept flower trellis. we found the cache after a few minutes wandering and poking around. it was well hidden, but was in need of maintenance. its zip lock bag was torn and dirt had found a way in, plus there was a gooey stuff in there. luckily the small pink logbook was kept inside another sealed plastic bag. we wrote on it, packed it in and hid the container back. TNLN.

in total we went to 3 places this afternoon, but managed to find only this one. we did not come well prepared for the terrain difficulty level for the cache in serangoon park connector, and we did not manage to find the one that's supposed to be located near ITE and CTE, although people said it was an easy find. too bad..

a long weekend! a perfect time to start geocaching.

geocaching is a treasure hunt-like game, involving GPS coordinates to indicate the caches' locations. the treasure is called a cache - the most basic one is a traditional cache, a container with a logbook. sometimes there are also other goodies inside. the general rule upon finding a cache is to write in the log book, and if an item was taken out, it should be replaced by another.

now, back to today's hunt..

woke up late and enjoyed the cool weather, thanks to the rain. cooked opor ayam for lunch, too bad I had no ketupat and sambel goreng to complete it :)

it was still drizzling but we went ahead, and decided to look for the nearest geocache. the coordinates led us to sengkang riverside park. the hint says "under a tree by the path". thanks to the picture, we found the cache easily. it contained a small logbook, a folded geocache brochure and a colorful small ruler. we wrote on the logbook and did not take anything from it.

the next coordinate led us to punggol field way. the cache was supposed to be located at the side of pedestrian walkway on the bridge overlooking TPE. thankfully the weather's alright. searched for it high and low but couldn't find it.. *sobs*.. better luck next time!

yay! we're done with the most stressful wedding choir =)
I'm not sure about how good or how bad we sounded, though. once we were 'on stage', we were at the mercy of the sound engineer who managed the sound system and the microphones' balance. didn't really bother to ask around for feedback too, haha..

although challenging, it was definitely memorable. I believe the next wedding choirs will be pale in comparison. but the fun will always be there, I'm sure.. why else would I want to commit myself to so many practices at the other side of the island ;)

went straight to raffles hotel's the lawn for afternoon tea reception. it was a garden wedding, lush greenery with live music, food and waiters walking around carrying champagne and soft drinks. the weather was cooperative too. bright and sunny with the sun hidden behind the hotel's building. but it's still quite warm.

a few friends came to our house for potluck gathering in the evening, the theme was indonesian food. we had batagor, grilled chicken, gado-gado, chicken wing, rempeyek and ice cream. *burp*

went to church rehearsal for friends' wedding this coming saturday. once we stepped into the church, we were welcomed by the groom-to-be's mum practicing her song. wonderful, powerful voice singing ave maria caccini.

the pressure's on! we were like.. oh my, can we not sing?

to top it off, each of us was assigned to individual microphone. and the microphones are mounted, so we had and will have to stand apart from each other. and I got the most sensitive mic of all. this is surely the scariest wedding choir I've ever participated in.

*crossing my fingers*

I am back from a yummy 3 days home trip. I still can't get enough of the food!

had martabak manis, martabak asin, pisang goreng, sop buntut goreng, es kelapa jeruk, batagor, kue pancong, mie GM with pangsit goreng, es blewah, sate ayam, siomay bandung, nasi begana, rujak penganten, kolak, soto kudus, teh botol.

the most unique one must be the sop buntut goreng I tried in bandung - my first visit to this newly discovered restaurant. the meat was boiled first until tender, then fried. it was served separately from the soup which contained slices of potato and carrot. the soup itself was really good. it was more like eating rice with braised meat, accompanied by a bowl of soup, rather than sop buntut, hehe.. but I liked it nonetheless.

brought back brownies, pisang molen, ayam bakar, batagor, gepuk.. *slurppp*
