Tempted by a deal offer and the restaurant's good reviews, we purchased a deal voucher sometime back. And so this evening we had 3 course wagyu beef set dinner at The Tastings Room, Marina Square.

Appetizer: soup. We had the choice of cream of potato & leek and french onion soup and we had both. The soups were satisfying. The cream of potato and leek soup was creamy but still light enough as appetizer. The french onion tasted good too.

For main course we chose wagyu steak served with truffle fries, and wagyu beef slow braised in red wine sauce. Verdict? Disappointing. For the fancy names, the dish did not look that great. I think white plates will do better than black ones. The biggest let down was the beef did not taste like wagyu at all. It might be the lowest grade of wagyu, but it tasted just like normal beef to us. The braised beef was really tender, although we could not really taste the red wine flavor. And the wagyu steak was quite tough, with no melt-in-your-mouth sensation at all. Their redeeming point was the truffle fries.

We had both gateau au fromage (also known as cheesecake) and tiramisu for dessert. They were both scrumptious!

We could tell that most of the tables in the small restaurant were filled up with couples eating the beef wagyu set meal. The place was quite small so the spaces between tables were minimal, we could easily overhear what the other people were discussing.

So even though the soups and cakes were good, we do not think we'll ever be back to the restaurant, as the main course was not up to standard. Especially considering our eating-out frequency nowadays. Even with the deal voucher we still found the price steep. Not to mention that GST and service charge were not included in the deal, and we realized it only at the end of the meal.
