Christmas Wonderland
Christmas decoration in Gardens by the Bay this year is lovely. Featuring colorful light sculptures and festive market, it's definitely a must-visit. On Thursday evening, after the rain, the crowd was minimal and the weather was quite cool. The man-made snow in Spalliera was quite disappointing, though.

Half a day in Orchard Rd
Took half a day off today to clear our leaves, and off we went to Orchard for some dining, shopping and soaking on Christmas festivities.
We had lunch at K.Cook Korean BBQ buffet. Considering it's a weekday, I didn't make a booking and had to wait for a while for a a table. The place was actually packed. Luckily they have a good queueing system - we keyed in the group size and contact number on a device at the entrance and an sms was sent containing a link with updates on the queue progress. When a table was ready the staff gave us a call.
The restaurant is located on 7th floor in Orchard Central, half of it is outdoor with high ceiling and huge fan, another half is indoor. Grill pans are placed on tables, together with tongs and scissors. The decorations are simple but look good.
Food variety was alright. There were 3 types of salad, cut fruits (oranges and watermelon), fruit dessert, some cooked dishes (rice cakes, glass noodles, rice, chicken wings, scallion pancake), and meat of course (beef bulgogi, pork belly, pork collar, marinated pork collar, marinated chicken, spicy chicken and sausages). There were also some side dishes like kimchi, radish, lettuce, sliced onions, enoki mushroom. Coke, sprite, fanta and ice water for drinks. For $14.90++ (price of weekday lunch), it's worth it.
Service was good too. Food was replenished promptly and dirty plates were cleared quickly. The not-so-good part of the lunch was the heat - it's really warm sitting outdoor in front of a smoking grill. And also that bbq smell that came home with us :)

Met a friend this evening who is visiting Singapore with her family. We planned to watch the free laser show (wonder full) at MBS promenade at 8pm, but too bad they only managed to reach MBS after the show's over.
Frankly speaking I didn't really enjoy the show either. There were a lot of people blocking the view and standing in front means getting wet from the water sprays. In these aspects I prefer Sentosa's crane dance, as they have proper seating arrangement with appropriate distance from the water. One thing for sure - the bubbles at MBS show were entertaining for kids.

Went to the newly opened Star Vista mall this afternoon. It might not be the wisest decision considering the combination of open-aired mall and hot weather, little wonder why there wasn't many people around.
However I was still excited to explore the unique design and checking out the unusual restaurants and stores. Most of the tenants are in F&B business, but I've never heard about most of them. That's a big plus point.
It's an open air concept in the mall, with no air conditioning except in the individual shops. Even then, not all shops use air-con. Some small cafes and bars do not have it. Air circulation is good, as the place is spacious enough. There's a water fountain in the basement for children to play at, complete with children's changing room. It reminded me of Greenwich V at Seletar, however Star Vista is much bigger. A christmas tree had been put up, looking quite bare with only stars and golden loops covering it - I bet it looks much nicer when lit up at night.
We bought a number of things from various places for our lunch. First, poutine from Triple O restaurant. It's a Canadian dish consisting of fries topped with thick brown gravy and cheese. Frankly speaking it wasn't as good as I expected, although sinful to be sure. Then it's Taiwanese Blackball's signature dessert: a bowl of grass jelly topped with yam balls, sweet potato balls, pearls and red bean for $4.50. Tasted alright, but I guess I still prefer having my pearls put in a cup of cold, refreshing ice tea.
Still hungry, the next stop was Boston Seafood Shack where we had cod fish & chips, served wrapped in paper. The fish and fries were good, fresh and tasty. The restaurant looked really outstanding due to its colorful decorations and bright colors, mainly red.
Then we had green tea frosty drink from Ya Kun kaya toast, of course with slices of toast. And we're finally full! *big grin*

spent our christmas night at st. regis. beside christmas tree, they had gingerbread house!
loved our room and bathroom :)
and since we're already in orchard area, after check-out we took bus to orchard road. I finally went in to ion orchard's christmas tree! hehehe.. and now I know that somerset mrt station is located below the new 313 somerset shopping mall. my, my, so many things have changed. took some photos of the orchard road christmas reindeer statues too.
