after going through first day of childcare that's full of tantrums, screams and cries; seeing those children that looked like lost sheep without a shepherd - hats off to all childcare teachers out there!

conquering gastroenteritis in a toddler is no mean feat. we have encountered this at least 4 times now and every time we needed to brace ourselves for the drill. the recent attack was the most challenging one, presenting itself with symptoms of diarrhoea, vomiting, slight fever and a bit of runny nose. as the vomit attack happened in late evening we went to K*H's A&E, which resulted in admission to the ward for the night. the fast response of the staff were great; but I'm not too impressed on the different advices given by different staff members.

during self-medication time at home, we did what we usually do:
- give 15-20ml of hydralyte every 15 mins
- if there's no more vomiting after a few hours, start to give around 10-20ml of milk every 10-15 mins
- if all clear, the amount of milk can be increased gradually
- keep watch of dehydration and fever
- in the mean time, try to ignore whatever cries or protests from the distraught toddler

but this time round there's an additional thing that was done - we replaced his milk with a soy-based one. as he's really attached to his cow's milk, there was a period when he gave up asking for milk altogether, resulting in a really lethargic boy. but after sometime he figured out that soy-based milk is better than no milk at all. and so he started to get much better afterwards =)
